  • The experiences that have marked my professional background in fish farming.

    INRA - FRANCE,(September 1986 to July 1988)

Experimental fish farm on KERGUELEN Islands, T.A.A.F. (French Southern and Antarctic Territories). “Sea ranching” production of Coho (Oncorhynchus kisutch) and Chinook (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha).

I have been managing for 15 months an experimental fish farm on Kerguelen Island under the direction of INRA (the french National Institute for Agricultural Research). This farm, located in the south of Indian Ocean, was probably the more remote fish farm in the world (50° South, 70° East). I insured the production of smolts, and was responsible for logistics coordination of the project. I also participated in the assessment of salmon populations in the rivers of the island. Finally I attended to the first returns of salmons, which allowed me carry out the first artificial fertilisation on site.

Group Chief Operating Officer for Canary Islands.

Production in cages  of sea bass and sea bream, 2,800 tons per year. Management of 2 concessions and a packing plant. 55 employees.

    Significant achievements:

1- Risk assessment of the group's grow-out activity (production facilities, environment, production strategy, animal health, staff security, theft or vandalism, legal aspects).

    • Propositions of solutions.
    • Preparation of an action plan.
    • Implementation of the selected solutions

2- Setting up of a tool for the evaluation of the production strategy with the aim of increasing margin and productivity per cage. The developped tool allowed comparing distinct production scenarios.

SINAPS consult provides expertise in all aspects of Marine fish farming, particularly in Offshore aquaculture including the design and setting of state of the art technologies, the implementation of adapted production strategies together with a relevant planification of risk management.

In addition, SINAPS consult may provide guidance in Shellfish farming and specifically develop innovative and ergonomic production systems.

Importantly, although both fish farming and shellfish farming may be considered as separate domains, their combination is highly relevant as it allows a substantial decrease in the environmental impact of intensive fish production. Indeed, the production of filtrating bivalves at the vicinity of fish farms lowers the release of particles while increasing farm benefits.

  •  Close-up on freshly harvested farmed Sea BassAfter more than 20 years dedicated to aquaculture and farm management in exposed sites, I decided to share my experience and advise producers and professionals from the field.

I gained experiences and knowledge within a wide range of production facilities, from small companies to large international groups. My responsibilities included technical, biological, economic and human aspects.

This experience allows SINAPS Consult to get involved and provide expertise at all levels and development stages of your project.

  • Offshore site exposed to cresting waves

Fish production in sheltered area is a common production system and is quite simple to implement. However, the favourable locations for this type of fish farm often competes closely with other intense human activities such as tourism or industry. The good locations are therefore scarce.

  • Close-up on freshly harvested farmed Sea Bream

We have developed our skills and expertise within exposed sites, mostly in sea bass and sea bream producing farms in offshore conditions.

SINAPS Consult capacities cover 3 main areas: Farm management, fish husbandry, rearing systems & equipments.

    Farm management

Due to a long experience in multi-site management, we have gained strong capacities in planification and coordination. The development of production strategies, their economic analysis and the implementation of improvement plans has given us a perfect control and knowledge of all the production stages

SINAPS Consult will advise in order to optimise your results.

    Fish husbandry

Mediterranean aquaculture is mainly based in the rearing of 2 species (sea bass and sea bream), which is usually carried out within the same company, often even in the same production site. The specific management of the needs required by each species (feeding regime, health control, biological requirements, behaviour…) is a perfect background for the development of rearing technologies for other species.

SINAPS Consult can provide expertise on any species.

    Rearing systems and equipments

Looking for the best trade-off between resistance, animal welfare, ergonomy and cost, requires a constant will of improvement. This requires a perfect knowledge of the selected materials and of their behaviour under the conditions of use.

The strong operational knowledge of SINAPS Consult allows us to provide you with the most relevant solutions.

You will benefit from our professionalism and know-how in one of the most demanding fields of aquaculture.

SINAPS Consult is specialised in Offshore aquaculture. In that environment, production is carried out under conditions that can be particularly severe, hence nothing should be left to chance.Every aspect of Offshore aquaculture is crucial. Altrhough production itself is obviously the main focus, infrastructure maintenance, logistics, human resources management, security and many other aspects are key components of success.

SINAPS Consult will provide you with the most relevant advices based on sound experience and proven results. Whatever the aquaculture sector you are involved in, just contact us and we will be delighted to exchange and further determine how best we can help to reach your objectives.
